ENDODONTICS OR ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

THERE IS A CONTROVERSY WITHIN THE DENTAL PROFESSION WITH REGARDS TO ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

THREE SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT:

The first one advocates the traditional root canal treatment where canals are cleaned and sealed with gutta percha; it is the official position approved by the Order of Dentists of Quebec and practiced by the majority of dentists and root canal specialists.

The second one proposes tooth extraction whenever there is a root canal present or when a tooth may need one. Its supporters follow the studies of Dr. Weston Price.

The third school of thought defends ocalexic (calcium oxide) root canal treatment. This position is supported by dentists who practice according to the research of Dr. Pierre Bernard.

The ADBQ and the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) encourage the use of calcium oxide in endodontic therapy; until further studies are done they neither condone nor advocate any particular school of thought.

To find out more about all three points of view, you are invited to consult our document data base which includes all three approaches.
